The former Director of the Dodowa Health Research Centre, Prof Margaret Gyapong received the Heroine of Health award on Sunday 21st May 2017. She was one of the 12 emerging women leaders in global healthcare with the first ever ‘Heroine of Health’ honors.The Award was received in an organized gala which was part of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

For over two decades, Prof Gyapong has worked extensively to develop and improve Operations/ Health Systems and Implementation research capacity among research teams in Ghana, Africa and Asia. She has also worked closely with program Implementers and policy makers in Ghana to ensure that her research leads into policy. Underlying her work, is a focus on championing women’s health and rights.

Winning such a prestigious award is not for those who only enjoy their dreams in sleeping, but for those who cannot sleep to fulfil their dream. You have brought honour to the African Continent and to the people of Ghana in particular. Today, we feel proud of your achievement and the DHRC is fortunate to have had you as a Director.
